My Experience as the Lead for the "Walk the Talk"
To be quite honest, I am probably the last person to be left in charge of an event, not to mention a fashion event out of all things. But as the wheel of fate spins, my class co-ordinator assigned me to be inc harge of the "Walk the Talk" event. I did not know head nor tail about the guidelines, nor did the random people who were assigned with me. But I knew I had to step up and be the team leader needed to let our class win. I tried my level best, trying to scrape together outfit ideas for all my classmates as we were practically grasping at straws, trying what little we could in the little time we had to prep ourselves. And so, on that day, when it was our turn to perform, I let myself transform into a completely different persona. Gone was the naïve and introverted Ethan, and in his place arrived my persona for the day, Leviticus Cornwall, a character from a western video game I played called Red Dead Redemption. I spoke like him, using my walking stick to try and capture the audience’s attention like a showman character from a 1930s film. I presented all my fellow classmates as they walked up the stage, and tried to make unique entries for all of them. Everything I said was on the spot without any practice. But I feel it would not have been as amazing as it was if not for my classmates. They appeared in such fashion and awe-inspiring ways that it was genuinely enough to make a grown man cry. We didn’t win sadly, but the memories will last us forever.
My heart is pounding, but my determination is even stronger
One afternoon during class, something unexpected happened. Mr. Frazer, our class
coordinator, suddenly showed up with a list of students chosen to take part in the
“Skills n’ Thrills” event. To my surprise, my name was on the list for the “Walk the Talk”
competition. At first, I wanted to get out of it. I even asked Mr. Frazer to remove my
name. But he kindly but firmly said No! So I had no choice but to prepare for it.
I won’t lie, the nerves hit me hard. Stage fright has been something I’ve battled with
since I was a kid, and I felt that old anxious flutter again. But thanks to the
encouragement and support of my friends, I slowly started to calm down. More
importantly, I discovered something wonderful: I found a spark of talent I thought I’d lost
along the way. My character for the act was Chef Linguini from Ratatouille. His story resonated deeply
with me. Like Linguini, I struggled with confidence, but with a little help from a friend (in
his case, a rat), I could face the challenges ahead. That connection gave me courage. When it was finally my turn, anxiety tried to creep back in, but I focused on channelling Chef Gusteau’s iconic pose and performed the sautéing technique that Chef Sangita had shown us during our practical session. Standing there on stage, doing something I love, I felt a wave of excitement and accomplishment.
Looking back, I’m proud of how I performed. It wasn’t perfect, but giving my best and
overcoming that stage fright was a win within itself. Sometimes, stepping out of your comfort zone is exactly what you need to rediscover your own strength.
Butterflies in my stomach, but here I go!
My experience of being the character Esmeralda was truly memorable. A little behind the scenes... As we had only 1 hour to get ready I had to finish my lunch fast and head to the common room to dressup. The common room was a total mess, and honestly, so was I. We were running late,of course! and somehow the place had turned into our dressup war zone. Costumes, accessories and makeup spread everywhere. Doing makeup in this mess was a challenge in its self and also all the mirrors were taken. It wasn’t glamorous at all just a bunch of stressed college girls tripping over backpacks, fixing each other’s outfits, and hoping we’d look put together by the time we rushed out. My opinion before I hit the stage...I've always felt that there is a little dancer hidden inside me, but confidence has never come easily to me. However, on that day, as I performed, something changed. For a brief moment, I did not feel like I was pretending, I genuinely felt like Esmeralda. Even when the music suddenly paused during my walk, making me slightly nervous, I gathered myself and continued. That moment taught me resilience and presence. Looking back, I feel I could have done better with my outfit and my walk, but more than that, I gained something far more valuable 'confidence'. Esmeralda’s character is brave, strong, compassionate, and independent, and I realised that these same qualities live within me too. In many ways, I saw myself reflected in her that day.
The Walk That Made Me Forget to Blink
Step Into Action: My Experience Of Walk the Talk
The stage was dramatically illuminated by a striking orange-red glow, showcasing a diverse group of performers from FY IHM. This tableau immediately evokes the tension of a spy , thriller or heist movie. The lineup features figures embodying cinematic archetypes, ranging from the sharply dressed Men in Black (MIB)-style agents and a culinary icon resembling Chef Auguste Gusteau, to the mysterious woman in black and a formidable individual armed with a rifle.
Each distinct pose contributes to the overall narrative, suggesting an intriguing mix of characters ready for action.
To conclude: The event was a blast. I won't say much, why don't I just show you...
